Диагностическая работа проводится с целью определения уровня подготовки обучающихся 8-х классов по английскому языку в компьютерной форме. Период проведения – январь-февраль.

Каждый вариант диагностической работы МЦКО состоит из 17 заданий, 3 из которых с выбором одного правильного ответа из четырёх предложенных и 14 заданий с кратким ответом.
Содержание диагностической работы охватывает учебный материал, включённый в основные (массовые) учебно-методические комплекты по английскому языку, используемые в Москве в 8-х классах общеобразовательных организаций.
Задания 1–3 проверяют умение понять основную идею в прочитанном тексте. Обучающимся предлагается прочитать тексты и определить, какой из четырёх приведённых заголовков соответствует содержанию каждого текста. В качестве текстов для чтения восьмиклассникам предлагаются несложные аутентичные информационные, научно-популярные, художественные тексты, которые содержат некоторое количество незнакомых слов, не влияющих на понимание запрашиваемой информации. Объём текстов – до 250 слов.
Задания 4–6 проверяют умение читать про себя и понимать запрашиваемую информацию, представленную в несплошных текстах (таблицах, диаграммах и т.д.). От обучающихся требуется соотнести обозначения на гистограмме с текстом и вставить в пропуски числа, написав цифры словами.
В заданиях 7–12 контролируются языковые грамматические навыки. Обучающиеся должны восстановить текст. Им необходимо преобразовать напечатанные в скобках слова так, чтобы они грамматически соответствовали содержанию текста.
В заданиях 13–17 контролируются лексико-грамматические навыки: данные в скобках слова необходимо преобразовать таким образом, чтобы они лексически и грамматически соответствовали содержанию текста. Обучающиеся должны восстановить текст, образовав от данного в скобках слова при помощи словообразовательных элементов (суффикса или префикса) необходимое по смыслу родственное слово и поставив его в нужную грамматическую форму.
Демонстрационный вариант МЦКО
1. The programme “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” originated in the United Kingdom. The original working title for the show was Cash Mountain. The title comes from a popular Cole Porter song of the same name. Ironically, the answer to the question in the song is “I don’t!” When the programme first appeared in the UK on 4 September, 1998, it was a new idea in the game show genre.

2. Only one contestant plays at a time (similar to some radio quizzes), and suspense is more important than pace. In most versions there are no time limits to answer the questions; contestants are given the question before they must decide whether to try and give an answer. The player is asked more and more difficult general knowledge questions by the host (the first – the easiest, the last – the most difficult). Questions are multiple choice: four possible answers are given (А, В, C and D), and the contestant must choose the correct one.

3. If at any point the contestant is unsure of the answer to a question, they can use one or more prompts or “lifelines”. Fifty-Fifty (the contestant asks the host to eliminate two incorrect answers, leaving the player with a choice between the correct answer and the incorrect one), Ask the Audience or Phone-А-Friend. After using “lifelines”, contestants can either answer the question, use another “lifeline”, or walk away and keep the money. Each prompt can only be used once. “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” is the most internationally popular television programme of all time, having appeared in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Our family travels a lot. My parents say that if we 7 (GO) to the USA in February or March next year, we will take part in Ice Alaska. It happens every year and promotes art, culture and tourism. It 8 (START) in 1934 by Kay Huffman and Clara Murray West. They used to organise the Fairbanks Winter Carnival with parades and dog races. Four years later, it 9 (BECOME) the Ice Carnival and Dog Derby, and artists carved thrones from ice for the carnival queen and king. The event grew and turned into an international ice-carving contest. In 1990, the first competition took place, and a French team was the winner. Since then, hundreds of artists from all over the world 10 (PARTICIPATE) in Ice Alaska. Visitors can watch the artists at work and see all the finished sculptures in a fantastic light display. Moscow is famous for its architectural masterpieces. One such artwork can be found on Chistoprudny Boulevard. It is an amazing 13 (BUILD) located just off Pokrovka street. Although it was built in the 20th century, it looks very modern. One of the highlights of the house is the 14 (DECORATE) of the walls.
